Best @ Home Battery Charger for Trolling Motor

Featured Replies

I have a deep cycle marine Trolling Motor Battery and I'm looking to get a charger.

I was wondering if I could get recommendations on which is best/best value for the buck/cheapest.

I would appreciate it !!! Also I need one that plugs into a regular outlet not an onboard charger.

I pick up one of these charges at a Pawn shop for $24 dollars pretty much still in it's box. I believe that they sell new for $50 to $80 dollars.

So far I'm very please with it. It can be used to start a car with a dead battery. I've used it to charge my boat batteries and to charge Kids 12 volt ride on toys also.

Here are the specks as listed on the net

Here's a 12 volt starter/charger that gives you a lot of quality features for the money. It's fully automatic and has LED lights to keep you informed of charger's operation. 50 amp engine start-for emergency starting. 10 amp fast charge for everyday charging needs-charges in 3 to 5 hours. 2 amp trickle charge-charges a small 12 volt battery in 2 to 12 hours. 2 LED lights signal Power On and Fully Charged. Fully automatic-will not overcharge batteries. Schumacher Chargers

I have use a 10 amp charger for years (schumacker and Sears) and they have performed OK. Last year I picked up a Vector digital smart charger. It comes in several sizes, I chose a 30/10/2 amp unit. It weighs about half as much as the older type chargers due to its newer technology (high speed off-line switcher). You can start charging at 30 amps, and it will step the charge rate down (to 10 amps) as the battery is charged. It is fan cooled, and the fan is run only as fast as power demands dictate so it is quieter as the battery gets charged. Once the battery is at 100% it turns off so you won't cook a battery. Paid about 70$ at Lowes and Wallmart caries a Black and Decker version of it. I like the vector shape/color better. So far is has been very fast, and no problems.

bought a black and decker 2,4,6 amp auto charger at walmart 3 years ago for $25 still works great. I know atleast 5 people that use them for their boats. will charge a battery overnight.

I've had problems with the Black and Decker, the digital readout went haywire after about two years so I had no feedback.   Replaced it with a Schumacker with a dial guage.

On board chargers plug into a regular outlet. Because they are mounted in the boat and depending on the number of banks they really simplify battery charging. Also they are water proof so rain is not a factor.
