Thoughts on the new Minn Kota Raptor Shallow Water Anchors?

How is the new Minn Kota Raptor Shallow Water Anchor any different than the Power Pole?

Also, does the new Minn Kota Raptor basically deploying similarly to the Power Pole and not vertically like the Minn Kota Talons show that the Talons couldn't hold the boat as well as the horizontally styled Power Poles?

I am to big a fan for Talons to entertain a change

I thought I heard that power poles patent had expired so minn kota introduced their own version as competition.

I’ve thought about adding shallow water anchors... and outside of the Talons weighing more than Power Poles, the Talons seem superior to me in many ways. I hadn’t heard they don’t hold well..

I thought that's what the Talons where.

So is Minn Kota saying the Power Pole style is superior to their Talons?

It couldn't see where it said the Raptor is better than the Talon or why you would choose it over the Talon.

Sometimes a person has to step up and make a decision for themselves

Talons deploy differently than poles.  So there was no patent on talons because they didn't exist until Minn Kota invented them.  In order for another company (Minn Kota) to duplicate the technology of the power pole, they had to wait for the design of the power pole's patent to expire.  Otherwise they would have introduced the raptor years ago when they introduced the talon.

I'm only speculating on this.  Some people just prefer the crab leg style of shallow water anchor and some prefer the vertical deployment.  If you have humminbirds, your electronics and bow mount and i-pilot will all link up together now in addition to the raptor so every piece of equipment can work as one.

I don't think they're saying the raptor is superior to the talon.  They're simply trying to compete with power pole using their own similar design now.

I assume all that stuff links up to Talons too?

Forgive me for not knowing much about the difference between the two, what are the benefits and detractors of both styles?

Yes, it will link up to the talon too.

I have one 12 foot talon that I attached to my boat in 2015.  The talon deploys vertically, straight up and down, and is powered by the battery.  Power poles deploy more like a crab leg and they are they are powered by hydraulics and a pump.  I don't know exactly how the new raptor is powered but I have to assume its like the original power poles using a hydraulic and pump.

I don't think people that have power poles are gonna all of the sudden remove them and replace them with a raptor instead.  But you might get a few people that purchase the raptor instead of a power pole because of the compatibility it has with humminbird, i-pilot, etc.
