I don’t Carolina rig too often, but when I do I seem to catch fish. Usually I run 40lb braid to a 14-15lb mono leader. I’ve only ever used the pre rigged kits, and I don’t really care for those, seems I’ve broken a few over the years. I like the idea of a finesse c-rig, mostly around sand bottom in grass. I’ve used a split shot plenty, with success. What about the mojo rig? There was a woman in our old bass club that carried a mojo rig kit and some worms and beat a lot of eyes shut from the back deck. What do y’all recommend for weights and ways to “peg” them? I tried a 1oz flipping weight the other day with a bobber stop and it kept sliding on me. Thanks!

Probably gonna be pretty hard to keep a one ounce weight in place with anything. Your best bet will probably be to let it slide free and stop it with a barrel swivel (with a bead between the weight and the knot, of course), then tie your leader to that. That's a pretty classic c-rig as I understand it.

 

Mojo/split shot rigs have been described as a sort of finesse Carolina rig, and I guess that makes sense to me in the explanations I've read here and watched from @Glenn and a couple others on YT. I'm only just learning how to fish them, but it seems that for this presentation, you want just enough weight to get the line down, but not so much that the whole thing goes rocketing to the bottom.

You might try a Peg It, made by Top Brass tackle. With these, you can peg the sinker at the depth you want, and still slide it up the line, to adjust your leader length. We use bullet worm sinkers, but you can get cylinder shaped mojo weights also. I like it, because you eliminate swivel, beads, and extra knots.
