Hey guys, I've been using spinner rod for a while and would like to do some bait-casting.

 

I found this on sale ''Quantum Burst'' 50% off, can't find any reviews about it online. Was wondering if someone has an idea if it's a good one or i should forget about it. Been reading on this forum alot but finally decided to make an account. Any help would be nice!

Well maybe, but "generally" a $150 reel on sale is a better choice. You can find some great

deals on our Flea Market.

i agree but i'm kind of looking for a combo at a good price to practice on. I live in canada i'm not sure if flea market is good for me

i don't know that particular reel,  but the features listed  make it SEEM useable.   however,  you can ask anyone here, the best bang for your buck is going to be a lew's combo, like the mach 2, or similar.  i have one, and i kid you not, it's as useable as the reels i have that cost 3 times as much.  it gets severely abused,  and never lets me down.  it casts great, very adjustable, and has a pretty decent drag system.

 

all that said,  THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is learning to properly set up your reel.  youtube is your friend.  learn to pick out backlashes, because you're going to get them. patience is key.  i still do occasionally, and i've been using a casting reel since before there was even such a thing as mag brakes.  on the plus side, once you learn to use one, the sensitivity, power and accuracy you'll get from them will make  everything worth it many times over.

One of my sons just bought this combo at Dick's. We got it dialed in nicely,

casts very well, and he's broken it in with several bass already.

Be aware, reel brands become arguments bordering religious. Shimano, Daiwa,

Lews, etc..... I went with Shimano years ago, also had a Daiwa which I gave to

another son. Been very pleased with all. Only one I hated, and returned, was

a Bass Pro combo which was impossible to dial in, LOL.

 

Everyone is different, enjoy whatever brand you buy.

man, you aint just whistlin' dixie.  i've seen some of the guys i work with have ridiculous arguments over it. it's as bad as politics or religion. hahahaha

I started with a Daiwa CC80 baitcaster. I got it on sale for $44 and do not regret it at all. One piece of advice I'd offer is: don't order your first baitcast combo. Go to a store, and physically hold it.

Stick with shimano or Lew's. Ive had a few daiwa products, I gave them all to people I severley dislike

i love the lew's stuff i have tried.  might not be the fanciest, but they work well,  and have huge bang-for-your-buck.

i have a shimano curado dc, and it's ok,  but not my favorite. 

you being a smallmouth guy,  i wish you lived close enough i could loan you my  daiwa

jdm sv lite.  i love this reel more and more each time i use it. it weighs nothing, it's tiny, and comfortable to palm, and throws tiny lures insanely far. the spool is really shallow though, and if i ever hook a monster at the end of a long cast, i might be in trouble. hahaha

   Wish you had known and severely disliked me back then.  I own 10 brands of reels, but Daiwas far outnumber all other brands.  From TD-S to Steez SV. 

Lew's American Hero is a great first baitcaster combo. It won't break the bank and it's reliable. I bought one years ago as my first baitcaster and it's still in my arsenal.

 

I was surprised at how sensitive the rod was.

I know how you feel. I did the same with my Lews reels.
