Braid for older bass pro rods

Featured Replies

I have several bass pro Extreme bait casting rods that I bought in 2008. (Woo Dave's endorsed) with Fuji guides. My question is would braided line be ok to use without cutting grooves in the guides. Thanks guys for any helpful info on this.

I don't forsee any problem.

Kevlar was the line material that gave braided line a bad name.

Kevlar did wear grooves in aluminum oxide inserts, but not polyethylene braid.

I had some of those rods, I believe they had Fuji hardaloy guides. I had no problems with braid.

2008 isn't old, super braid has been around more the a decade by then.

Check the guides for cracks if good and you are ok.

You're fine.  I still have one from around 2010 and all it's ever had on it is braid.  Never any problems and I use it on every outing.

I have Carbonlites mostly now, but I had two 7'MH Extremes 15 years old until last year and braid was no problem.  One was a frog rod.  I traded them in at the 2020 Spring Classic for two Carbonlite 2.0 rods.
