That's a beautiful fish. Would look great in an aquarium.

That's exactly how they ended up in these canals. South Florida is full of exotics species that were released as pets and are now reproducing. These guys were first spotted in 1980 and are now established in several canals.

I would rather take a nap.

  • I found the secret to fishing micro-smallmouth: Use gigantic lures.  The larger the lure, the smaller the smallmouth that will attack it.

  • Just a couple of the different species I've caught microfishing in the last week. From first to last they are the Salvini cichlid, bluegill sunfish, Mayan cichlid, and jaguar cichlid.

I would love fishing there, especially since I've been keeping fish since a young boy. I would have aquariums full of exotics.

My daughter sent me this article on microfishing today. Her comment in the email was... They won't be laughing at you any more Dad!

Was trying to sight cast to some small peacocks and this 9-10" snakehead came out of nowhere and slammed the little kietech I was using. It's a 4" bait for size.

Here are some true micros from today, all golden topminnows. By the most widely accepted definition, a microfish is a species that does not reach a maximum size of 8 inches as an adult. These little topminnows are true beauties in miniature.

A couple adult salvini cichlids from a South Florida canal this weekend. I caught a dozen or so in about an hour, but these three were the best looking.
