St. Croix Sales
Discontinued BassX, 20% off. Not bad for someone wanting an entry level rod or for something to give to their kid, but not what most would consider a Black Friday sale.

St. Croix Sales
Wish they would announce what they were actually putting on sale. Hopefully it's something good, but usually it's just their old discontinued models with extremely limited stock.

Nice. I did my graduate work at Franklin Pierce University. Fished Pearly Pond a ton. I wish I would've explored all the creeks and rivers more.

Multispecies Fishing in the Everglades
What years was this? I ask because I've always been curious to learn what the canals were like before all these non-native fish became established? What kinds of fish were most common back then?

Welcome. I spent two years living in Rindge and Jaffrey. Really wish I would've fished more while I lived there. Absolutely beautiful area with plenty of water.

Multispecies Fishing in the Everglades
Hello everyone, One of my favorite things about living in southern Florida is the wide variety of fish species found in both fresh and saltwater. You can head to a local canal and catch nearly a dozen different species just messing around. I wanted to share this trip I took one afternoon to Tamiami Trail in the Everglades. Plenty of constant action on small soft plastics worked close to shore made for a great day of fishing. Hope you guys like it.

Anyone Here Microfish?
A couple adult salvini cichlids from a South Florida canal this weekend. I caught a dozen or so in about an hour, but these three were the best looking.

Anyone Here Microfish?
Here are some true micros from today, all golden topminnows. By the most widely accepted definition, a microfish is a species that does not reach a maximum size of 8 inches as an adult. These little topminnows are true beauties in miniature.

Unreported Record Bullhead?
The pictures are awful, but my initial thought was white catfish.

Unreported Record Bullhead?
Yeah that's not going to be a bullhead of any kind.

What kind is this fish?
How could you possibly tell that that is a koi and not a goldfish from that picture?

Carp (Non-Asian) - Kill Or Release?
Correct. That doesn't mean the common carp is worse. The largemouth bass has negatively impacted the ecosystems that it was introduced to way worse than the common carp. There is much more into determining if a fish is invasive than where it is from. I realize that many people here are uneducated on the subject and that is why I don't feel offended when someone disagrees. I knew it would be an unpopular opinion here. I just don't want to continue preaching to ignorant people and wasting my time. On that note, I'm out of this conversation.
-
Carp (Non-Asian) - Kill Or Release?
Wrong. Largemouth Bass are only native to ~19 states while they are currently established in 48. They also cause more damage to the ecosystem than carp. I know this is a bass website and people here have a soft spot for them, but they are absolutely the most invasive species in most of the United States. Again, this isn't an opinion, but a correct fact. You can choose to ignore it if you want, but you're the wrong one.

New West Virginia Record
Gotta love when the journalists can't even be bothered to use a picture of the correct species.

Carp (Non-Asian) - Kill Or Release?
Unpopular opinion on a website like this, but it's actually more of a fact. Largemouth bass are much more harmful and invasive to most of the United States than common carp are. Release them.

You weren't catching what you thought you were catching?
Awesome. I have yet to catch one of those and it wasn't for a lack of trying. Two of my friends and I spent two days in December fishing the Suwannee River in Florida. The fishing was awful. I only caught one largemouth and lost a really big Suwannee. It came up for a second then peeled drag and wrapped me up around some brush. Maybe next time.

You weren't catching what you thought you were catching?
Got some pictures? I think Suwannee are the coolest looking black bass species. I've never heard of them being in ponds though, just rivers. Yeah that's not possible.

Has anyone gone to finesse or multi-species fishing and had good results?
I've always felt this way. I enjoy fishing smaller lures on lighter gear for two reasons. 1. It lets me catch more fish. 2. The fight is much more enjoyable. I believe that the whole "big lures=big fish" saying is only half true. All big lures do is limit the number of small fish you'll catch, they don't actually incense the number of big fish you'll catch. Small lures keep the number of big fish you'll catch the same, but they increase the number of smaller fish you'll catch. Also, my PB largemouth which was around 6-8 pounds was caught on a 2 inch curly tail grub that was intended for a yellow perch.

What kind is this fish?
To be more specific I believe it's a black crappie. If you can post a pic with the dorsal spines showing I'll tell you for sure.

Victory Is Near
It does balance slightly better than a Mojo Bass in my opinion. I'm not a rod builder, but couldn't they achieve the same thing with a shorter handle and just add a little bit of weight to it?

Rods out of stock. Sign of the times?
They are backlogged most likely after being closed for a few months and also a supply chain issue, both due to Covid. However, they are consistently supplying their distributers with rods. They've prioritized getting their rods into stores over getting their own website stocked.

Victory Is Near
My 71MF spinning got delivered yesterday. Was able to fish it for about two hours before sunset. Caught 3 largemouths on it up to about 1 and a half to two pounds and one jumbo bluegill. Fished it with a 1/8oz jighead and also with a 1/4oz jerkbait. Sensitivity on this is great. Better than on a Mojo Bass and I believe it's slightly better than on an Avid, although it's not as good as on a Legend Xtreme. You guys could've probably guessed that. It worked perfectly with the jig even though it was 1/16oz lighter than what the rod is rated for. Action in the tip is perfect for bouncing it off the bottom and the hits were extremely vibrant. Very noticeable difference compared to a Mojo Bass. I love using fast action rods for jerkbaits as well and this one was great. Casts a mile and takes minimal work to put flex in the rod to make that lure do what you want. My biggest and really only beef is with the handle. Too long and uncomfortable, not to mention I hate foam. Wish they would've just went with a simple reel seat like on the Mojo Bass. Overall I think it's a great rod for the price and if you're considering this or a Mojo, get this. Slightly better rod with an extra 10 years of warranty. Hope it's okay for me to say this, but I'll have a 20 minute unboxing, testing, and review video out on YouTube tomorrow at noon.

New St Croix rod
You're talking about two different things. The discussion was about the power of the rod, you're talking about the action of the rod.

Most versatile rod length?
So you mean exactly 7'? lol
