What kind is this fish?

Featured Replies

Went fishing today at the tomhannock reservoir for first time since ice out. There is still some ice in parts away from sun but 90% melted. Didnt get one bite or even see a sign of fish except this one dead in the water. Water so high its hard to find spots you can even cast from. What kind is this fish? It was about 2-3 inches long.

They all start some where

To be more specific I believe it's a black crappie. If you can post a pic with the dorsal spines showing I'll tell you for sure.

We call them strawberry bass, but Black crappie works too.

My vote is white crappie.

to me that looks more like a black crappie than a white, and he is also probably kind of discolored because of his untimely demise
