I’ve been reading the forums for years but this is my first post. So hello! 
 

I’ve wondered about fishing stained water and your line... when it turns a darker yellow color if it’s not cleaned off that day is the line wasted? Using fluro and the lines only a few weeks old. The water I fished was only for a few hours. Is it fine to clean off in clear water or does the line need changed? 

It's fine.  And I've never washed, or heard of anyone washing their line. 

This is a great question. I have a lake i fish that tends to get a film on the top and stains the line.  Brand new line at that, lol. My pickiness always hates this and I want to change it out. It normally cleans itself when i am on cleaner water, but I do like the question. Any insight on this would be great.  

 

One thing I do though is to soak my line in KVD line conditioner before and after this and it seems to help.

You think dirty water damages the line or you just don't like having dirty line?  Dirty water does NOT damage the line.  If discolored braid was bad I'd be changing mine almost every other time out fishing.  Braid does not keep its color very long. 

Line is going to fade/get stained because of use. It doesn't affect the strength or characteristics. Long as you don't have nicks in the line, it's fine.

   The only time I clean my line is when that ol' Mississippi mud starts to put a caked film on it. That affects casting. So I get a rag and cast out, retrieving through the rag. It works ..... but that doesn't happen very often.       jj

If that's like the gunk that gets on my line, it should come off when you make a few casts in clear water.  Shouldn't hurt anything.

I can honestly say I have seen water change the color of line.  Where/type of water are you fishing that turns your line brown.  I’m just curious

I have line stained like that as well. My line is more greenish-brown than this, but still stained. From algae.

Algae like what happens on lake Erie would make sense
