Braid brands and backlash

Featured Replies

I understand that reels, rods, adjustments, settings to reels and test of line all impact casting. All things equal, can anyone recommend a brand of braid that in their experience, seemed a little more helpful with reducing backlash?

I am not a braid expert on the various manufacturers and just gave it up years ago because I tired of dealing with it.

I use both Sufix 832 and PowerPro.   As long as I do my part I have no issues with either.  I also don't go below 20 lb test.

I did use one brand last year, I can't remember what it's called, it was a well known Japanese brand, J-Plex or something like that.  Wind knots something fierce with that one.

I don't believe that "brand" has much to do with it. If you want to reduce backlash, watch your diameter. I would go .014 (fourteen mil) and up to be safe.

   Yes, you can go smaller.

   I wouldn't.     jj

Because braid is so thin and slick, the lower pound tests will really dig in causing backlashes. As said above, the diameter is the key. Seaguar Smackdown 50# minimum (20 # mono equivalent) on my baitcasters but usually 65# (25# mono equivalent).

Thank you everyone. I found a line diameter guide published by Mels-Place.com, I’m going to go with the larger diameter 65 pound braid from those mentioned to see if I can cut down on the backlash for now - ty again.
