In 1973 or around ,  I received a shakespeare spinning combo for my birthday . The reel is long gone but i still have the Wonder Rod . If I ever see a  reel like it I will buy it if reasonable . I dont remember the model number but think I would recognize it . It was green .

The price tag on the bottom of my Mitchell 300 box is $18.99.   That was  a lot of money for a fishing reel back then.

I have a collection of Ugly Sticks that are over 20 years old each and these rods still fish like the day I got them. They are the best bang for your buck rod you can buy if you need a rod that takes lots of abuse and can last for decades. Other rods might be lighter but they are much easier to break so you have to be more careful with them compared to an Ugly Stik.

My rod is pre Ugly Stick , no  graphite in it . Its wrapped like an ugly stick .

The oldest thing that I still have would be a Johnson Century spin-cast reel I got in the 60's. The oldest that I ever use, but very rarely is an old Abu 5500 reel from maybe the 70's. The stuff I use all the time I am told is too old and that would be my pack of Daiwa TD-Z reels from the 1990's and early 2000's.....When they make a better reel I'll look into it...
