Anyone know any other kayaks that you can store your 1 piece rods in the hatch?

any links? Personally I haven’t seen any for some reason.

Austinkayak.com has a great site where you can look at, compare, and check out most of what's on the market.

Most SOT kayaks are hollow on the sides, so unless the front hatch is self contained, you can usually store your rods in there. However, some rods may not work.  It usually has less to do with length of the rod than stiffness and length of the handle.  You have to bend them pretty good, which isn't a problem at the tip, but down by the handle, it can be an issue.

That being said, I wouldn't recommend doing this with an expensive rod.  There are usually bolts and rivets inside that can catch your line guides and scratch your blank.  Plus they're gonna bounce around a bunch.  And they can be difficult to load in and pull out while on the water.

Ocean Kayaks have a rod pod down the middle.  I store my rods in there when I do overnights or when I just need a spare and don't have room on the top for another.  They actually have a ton of storage inside them, well, at least mine does.  It's an older Trident 11.  I usually haul all my camping stuff inside to keep it dry while I'm floating.

Sorry to all. I’m new to this so I’m learning a lot from talking to you guys! That’s a good point about the rod storage the bending which I didn’t even think of. At this point I’m just looking for something that’s 11 ft or longer, that’s stable and light. I’ve been looking at the feelfree moken 12 v2. Anyone have any experience with this kayak?

Not that exact kayak, but I have some experience with other Feelfree kayaks.

If its like every other kayak they've made, it'll track like trash unless you install the beavertail rudder (add $200 to the price).

They're well built kayaks, but they have some quirks. They don't use a normal track system, instead they use their proprietary Unitrack system. You'll have to either buy or make an adapter for anything you want to put on the rails.

The sonar pod is invaluable. I have my graph, batteries, and transducer all in one easily set up and easily stored box. They also make a motor mount that fits in there.

I’d have to agree with Francho.  Unless you live down south where you can fish year round, wait till spring and buy a used one that someone bought with a stimulus check during COVID and then discovered yakking wasn’t for them.  Start looking early spring as often you can find good used deals as people want to sell while the buying is “hot”.  They don’t want to hassle with the whole selling thing and just want to get out of it as fast as possible.  My buddy got a great deal on a Vibe from a lady who bought it online, used it once and decided that a fishing yak was not for her.  You have to search sites daily, almost like a second job, then react fast when you find that “one”.  Worth the wait if you have the patience.
