Picked up a few bags of the Big TRDs on sale a little while back. I've just gotten to testing them out and missed a few fish with them. I've been using the same Berkley Halfhead jigs I do for regular TRDs and I feel like a jig head with a longer shank hook would help my odds.

 

What jig head are you all using for Big TRDs or similar 4"-ish worms?

The only time I use the big TRDs is when the bottom is grassy and the fish may have trouble seeing the smaller TRD.  I use a Flatlands EWG in 1/0 or 2/0.  There are a bunch of different ned heads around now, if you want a standard jighead they wont be hard to find.

Thanks for the suggestions gents. I have light wire EWG jig heads I may try in the mean time until I can get some of the Outkasts ordered. I like a #2 hook for a regular finesse TRD but that Outkast head with 2/0 available in 1/16 oz is pretty interesting for the Big TRD.

I use 1/16 and 1/8 owner ultraball finesse jig head for big TRD and hula stick.

*Picasso Rhino Ned Head developed by Aaron Martens in 1/8 oz. 3/0 hook size would be a good starting point for the Big TRD.

Thanks guys, looks like a few solid options to try out. I looked at a lot of jig heads before posting this but somehow missed a few of these.  Will be seeing what my local BPS has tomorrow. Will have to get some in my next TW order too. Always fun to test different options. 

I use VMC Rugby Head EWG jig heads for anything bigger than a finesse TRD. I originally wanted them to use as a weedless ned head but the hook is too long IMO so I use them for shakey head type stuff. Stick baits and mini rage craws. 

Z-man makes a Finesse Bullet Hook that works awesome with the Big TRD's. It wont stand up perfectly vertical (think shakey head) but they will come through/around/over just about anything. The hookup percentage is the closest thing I've ever used, to being 100%. And don't forget to try the big TRD, wacky rigged. It just dawned on me recently and wow! Good Luck.

No need for a bigger, longer hook. It works better with the smaller head/hook IMO. I use the exact same 1/16oz head and #1 hook as I do with my standard size Ned baits.

 

It was my go-to rig for my Neds this winter and accounted for many big fish including my first fish over 5 of the year and one of my 2 biggest of the year.
