Help deciding on crankbait rod

Featured Replies

I want to get a rod for throwing Megabass D-X 300, Deep Six, River2Sea DD Crank, DD22, 5xd/6xd, etc. basically 1/2-1oz cranks that dive 10-20ft.

I've been looking at the Phenix X-13 and Dobyns Champion 765, and G-loomis IMX 906. I want a rod that has a decent enough rear-grip length for making casts and ideally something around $200 but for the right rod I guess I'm not that price concerned.

IMX 906 is a great rod, but far in excess of $200. I love mine and it was worth every penny, but also really enjoy my $110 St. Croix Bass-X 7'2" Medium-Heavy/Moderate.

I throw my faster/tighter wobbling deep cranks on it and keep the 906 for throwing my wide wobbling deep summer cranks where the action of the plug is more difficult to detect those swipes since it is more sensitive.

Both cast a mile since they are usually throwing a heavy plug.

Man check out the new intenza rods!! Beautiful looking rods at a great price, they have a 7'2, 7'6 and a 7'11 glass cranking rod that are all awesome. I've got the 7'2 with plans on the 7'6 next season.

I have G. Loomis 903C IMX and it is a great rod.  I would imagine the 906C wouldn't be that much different.  It's sensitive (but not too much), light, and the end of the rod is longer as mentioned.

Another one I would consider is the St. Croix Legend Glass 7'4'' MH.  It is closer to the price range you mentioned.
