Spro Frogs

Featured Replies

I have started fishing a spro bronzeye frog a lot, Love the hits i get, so many..

Only problem is I have not had a hook up yet.

Just wondering if it's maybe something im doing?, this is a problem most of you experience, or the fish are too small (The hits seem to be fish 1lb or under so far, nothing really big)

Do you guys think the bronzeye jr. would produce better hookups?

Im not a huge fan of the soft plastic frogs due to them ripping, etc.

Are there any other "hard body" frogs other than the bronzeye you guys would recommed?

thanks.

I have (or should say had) 2 SPRO Frogs.  One I hook up with very well and the other one I couldn't catch a fish to save my life.  The difference between the two?  The one seemed to have had a hard body and is actually tough to press down.  The other one is very soft.  I gave the more dense one away to my nephew (he justs likes to collect lures) and still enjoy catching fish on the other one.  You may be experiencing the same thing.  I would say try another soft frog or take a chance and buy another SPRO.  Good luck.

I've got a couple SPRO frogs as well.  There just OK in my opinion.  They seem to be pretty inconsistent as far as softness goes.  I've ended up going with either Bobby's Perfect Frog or the Boze Sumo Frog.

I would look at your hook set first.

Most of the people I know that have consistant poor hook-ups try to set the hook way too fast.

Try giving it a little time before you set the hook and see if that helps.

Another thing....are you fishing them on braid? Braid will definately help. Look at the size of most frog hooks.....you don't want any stretch in your hook set.

I have been experimenting with a lot of different hooksets with the frog. This is the best I have found so far.

1)When a bass explodes on the frog look for it on the surface,if the bass has missed it,let it sit.The bass will probably make a second pass at it.

2)If the bass has taken the frog, find where the line enters the water and determine which way the bass is swimming.

3)Use a sweep set to the opposite side the bass is swimming.

If you use this method you will not set the hook to early.I also use a lubricant (megastrike, frog hog, etc)so when the hook is set,the frog moves easier in the basses mouth and you will get a better hookup.I land about 85% using this method, not counting misses.

Thanks, Good tips, I'll give em a try and maybe purchase some of the other brands listed if all else fails for me.

my recomendation is to us braid and keep your rod tip up at about 11 oclock.  when you get a hit lower your rod and set the hook.  the time it takes to lower the rod should be enough to make sure the lure is in the mouth but not too long to where it will get spit back out.  just my 0.02$
