Adding to my arsenal

Featured Replies

Im currently running 3 combos and ive been thinking about grabbing a few more to add to my arsenal. I mostly fish out of a kayak or jon so i would like to keep it under 5 or 6 totally combos just wondering what you guys would recommend

Currently setups

1. Ark viper 7' MHXF / 13 inception for trigs, jigs, bottom contact

2. Diawa arid x 7'MHF / Lews lfs for moving baits, spinnerbaits , chatterbait, small swimbaits

3. H20 xpress premier 7' MF / 2000 size 13 fishing reel for finesse,  top water , and crank baits.

Do you fish slop?  If so I'd add a heavy fast.  If not I'd add another MH/Fast.....due to it's versatility.

It all depends on what you need.  Think about what you actually fish most.  Then look for setups specific for those techniques.  For me, I mostly use four different presentations, so I have four rods specifically for them.  For everything else, I just use one of my four rods to make do.  I actually have more than four rods, but since I'm either bank fishing, or fishing from a kayak, the four is all I like to take.  Any more, and I find they get in the way.

For my fishing style, I'd go with a specific topwater and specific crankbait rod.  Something like a 5'6" M/M for topwater (the shorter rods really help with popping and walking the dog, I feel).  Then something like a 7' M/M for crankbaits.  Maybe a 7'6" MH/M for deep divers.  But that's just me.  I'm not a big fan of fast action rods for treble hook lures, if it can be avoided.

Agreed ^

Something in a moderate for crankbaits.

You have a well rounded set there! Save for maybe a medium fast casting rod and a heavy for frogging flipping. If the heavy isn’t needed I’d look at a crankbait rod, like a medium moderate or medium heavy moderate depending on what you throw most.

Id either add a 7'6 heavy for flippin/ pitching or a 7' med for cranks and jerkbaits.  As already said depends on where and how u like to fish. My 2 combos I couldn't do without are a 6'9 med with a lews tournament pro lfs and a 7'6 heavy with same reel.
