Power switch for Talons

Featured Replies

I put two talons on my boat but have not installed a power cutoff switch yet (talons have a constant draw). So far I've been just disconnecting the fuses which is silly. What are some options that you guys have been using for switches? I want to just put something on the console to turn on/off when I get into the boat? I'm not sure of what amp rating the switch needs to be though, I get it's 12v but what should the amp draw be (30 I think)?

I found this so far but it seems bulky

This is more what I'm looking for, smaller but I think the amps are too low. Rated for 5 amps.

Mine are power poles and there wired into my main cutoff switch that controls everything except trolling motor which has it's own. I always turn off main until I'm ready to go fishing.

Mine are power poles as well. I installed one very similar to the first one you posted but I installed it in the battery compartment. Super easy to just lift the hatch and turn it off while you are back there strapping everything down. I did this to make it easier to install and so I could use heavier gauged wire.

Something like the first one on your list.  Put it in the back next to the battery.  You can also buy a new power cord from MinnKota that has waterproof plugs that you can disconnect.

This is me too.  Main power switch to the cranking battery which is connected to the talon.

Hey Gary you ever hear of a talon deploying on accident while driving down the road?  Before I bought a talon in 2015 I read online of horror stories like this.  I've never heard of it actually happening to someone other than rumors I've heard about on the internet but the thought of it happening is what drove me to use the main power switch.

I've heard those horror stories too. When I pull the boat out of the garage I need to lower my poles to clear the door then after I raise them I put my power pole covers on. That way I know they can't creep down.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping there would be a small switch out there that I could mount to the console for just the talons but it doesn't seem that there is. I found some on amazon that are rated at 30 amps but I don't trust the reviews.
