PSA - Check behind your TM prop

Got into my line with the TM last night, had to just cut the line as I didn't have a socket for the prop nut.

Took the prop off this afternoon to remove the line and replace the cross pin.  Pulled the cup washer behind the cross pin and there was about 20' of braid balled up in there.

Just glad I found it now rather than after it had burned up.

Had the same thing happen today.  I was only able to pull a small amount out.  I'll have to pull the prop tomorrow to get the rest out, got a T on Sunday.

That line had been in there for a while.  I don't fish braid.

Everytime I come home, I take that prop off.   Even algae can build up behind it.  Once it is dry, it turns into paper mache.

I take my TM prop off everytime I get back from the lake.  I do that because a lot of times you can damage a shear pin hitting the bottom or objects and I prefer to replace it when it gets bent.  I also cover my boat and I don't have to worry about the prop cutting into my cover.  It doesn't take 30 seconds to screw the nut off, pull the prop off, slide the pin out and stick it in the notch in the prop and place the nut over it to hold it and lay it on the bow so it's right there when you're ready to go next time.  I'm refering to my MG, don't run MK so not sure what's involved with them.

Thanks.  Will do.  :)

....and while you've got the prop off, make sure the screws that hold the guts into the lower unit are tight. Once water gets in and the seal goes bad, everything else gets fried and is very expensive to fix. (I just replaced the lower unit on a Motorguide 109 because of this)

Hope it wasn't mine....  :)
