Chickamauga Trip Questions

Featured Replies

I have off work on March 28th for a week and was thinking of taking my boat to Lake Chickamauga near Dayton. I have never been there before and had some questions to see if anyone could help maximize my time there. I was going to start in Mud Creek just above Dayton (we plan on lodging near Dayton) but I really have no idea where to go or what to look for. I live in MD and am familiar with the Upper Chesapeake and Lower Potomac but know absolutely nothing about Chickamauga other that it's a good fishery.

-Is this even a good time of year to fish there?

-What are average water temps that time of year?

-Will the bass be in prespawn yet?

-What are some good locations to go to that time of year? Not exact locations but maybe some creeks or general areas.

Any tips or locations you guys can give would be helpful. I'll probably only fish for 3-4 days so I don't have time to explore too much and if anyone go point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

You should be in a good area, though it will be unbelievably crowded. (Although if you’re from DC that should be normal!) late March will most definitely be pre spawn with some probably already making nests. Water temps vary, should be 60 or so by then unless it floods. The lower end of the lake gets more pressure but then again Dayton is where all the big tourneys launch from
