I think we can all agree that the less line twist there is, the better. Especially on a spinning reel. So initially putting the line on properly without any line twist will greatly aid in reducing line twist from the start. Whether you’re doing it yourself or having someone else do it, you still want the same result.

50+ years of using spinning reels and I agree totally with this. The less twist you have on the reel to start with, the better.

The nearest Cabelas is 40 minutes from me.  Long drive both ways, but would be well worth it if they can spool up my reels correctly.  I'll probably take a trip down sometime this long weekend.  I have a strange feeling I'll be buying more than line there.     Hard to leave with a heavy wallet whenever I visit a bait and tackle store, and I've never been to a Bass Pro/Cabelas.

 

We'll soon know whether this is user error.

The nearest one by me is about 20 minutes but they’ll spool as many as you want. Just bear in mind that there could be others waiting too and if you have a bunch of spools it could take a while. I usually drop them off, tell them what I want, and then look around the store while they do it.

Normally have no issues with shops spooling line for me or my wife. My wife however one time went to go spool up a new Shimano Vanquish and the dude, I don’t know how, dropped the spool on table which then proceeded to roll off the table onto the floor. Safe to say the wife wasn’t too pleased. But other than that no issues, no kinks in the line, no knots.

It might be an over filled spool combined with line twist.

I was filming trying to record myself catching some fish, but ended up being able to show what I'm complaining about.  This was more than halfway to a depleted spool, so the knot wasn't due to over spooling.  Not sure if I could have undone the knot by bringing in the line by hand and and wrapping it around the loop, but I just ended up giving up and cutting off the line before the knot and re-tying the hook.

 

I'd love to be able to fish and not have to deal with this.

 

I don't know if the magic Cabelas spoolers will fix this for good, but I'm glad I going anyway, as I've never been to one.  Never lived close enough.
