Shimano Curado 70 MGL K for punching?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to replace my current reel that I'm using on my Expride 7'11" punching rod.

Right now I have the rod paired with a Curado 200K. Now, while this reel will balance better than the Curado 70 MGL, I really want something a little lighter and more palmable.

I realize the MGL shines at throwing lighter weights. But I'm curious if anybody uses it for Pitching/flipping/punching. I'd be using 50# braid on it.

Also, does anyone know if there's a difference in handle size between the 7.4 and the 8.1?

Thanks.

It would be perfect! I think the HG is 90 and the XG is 96. Not 100% though.

Not sure why, but the 200K with that 7'11" Expride just wore me out a little bit last year when punching all day. Having carpal tunnel in my other wrist now doesn't help I'm sure.

Towards the end of the year I slapped a Pflueger Supreme XT on the rod. It's a little smaller and definitely lighter than the 200K, and it just felt way more comfortable to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the 200K and I have them on a few other rods, but with this punching stick it was just a little much IMO.

Where did you end up @NorthernBasser? My previous punching reel just died on me. Any runners up to the Curado MGL? I don't want to drop that much on a reel that's only used part of the season.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet but definitely wanna get the MGL 70XG. What were you using before?
