Brainfarts while rigging?

Featured Replies

Tuesday we were making a short slow run so I sat down, cut off the old spinnerbait, took out a new spinnerbait, and tied the old one back on. Duh.

Earlier in the morning I'd found myself looking at my fingers and trying to remember how to tie a uni-knot. I've been tying them for at least 40 years. After two or three seconds of confusion I simply closed my eyes and let my fingers tie it.

I first learned how to really tie a uni-knot on the beach at night in the wind.

An oldie-but-goodie is grabbing the handle of your old-style tackle box and picking it up...only to discover you forgot to latch it closed. And watch in horror as all your lures and tackle tumble out.

My son asked me to Texas rig a swim bait for him because he kept getting caught on rocks.  Ok, which one. What weight would you like? 1/8? Cool. Done.

First cast “Dad I’m caught.”

No. There’s no way. Son, only can get hooked on a rock when the hook point isn’t even there. Figure it out.
20 minutes later: “Dad I got it, I think the hook is bent and that’s why I got caught.”

Give me that.
I cast. Got caught immediately. Fight it loose. Look at it.

I put the weight on backwards.
Sorry kid.
