Upstate NY ice gone on lakes?

Featured Replies

I am eager to head up north with my boat from PA to a lake in Upstate NY.  Does anyone know if the ice is gone yet?

It's been up and down temp wise, so it's hard to tell.

Thanks!

It's a smaller private lake west/North of Albany.  Just looking for a ground report on anything in the area.  I am so ready!!

Im up near Alex Bay and the most of the big water is open. The smaller lakes around here still have ice but it's going away fast. Once we get these next few days of rain, they should be clear.

Fantastic.  Appreciate that.  I would be further south by 100 miles.  Should be open waters even on small lakes.

tomhannock reservoir is open so is six mile water works. Pretty much everything around albany is open now. Fish are not really biting yet at all though I fish every tuesday and wednesday and got nothing yet. But after these really record warm days I think next tuesday I might start catching them!

I am North of the Capital region of NY. The reservoir by my house still has ice covering it. That place is usually the last to thaw in the spring.

The Hudson River main river cleared of ice this week there is still some ice in the streams. Local pond is ice free. Have not been to Lake George to know if it is ice free yet.

I just drove by the Tomhannock Reservoir which is east of Troy last Saturday and I didn't see any ice anywhere, plus all the smaller ponds and whatnot I passed by as well.

Smaller lakes are likely ice free.

Pretty much everything south of the Adirondacks should be open now. The Adirondack ponds and lakes are slowly starting to open up from what I've seen in some posts on the book of faces.

I think the last cold snap is going to be over after tonight.  Boat drop and weekend of fishing is going to happen within a couple of weeks for me.

Thanks everyone for the updates.  So looking forward to getting on the water.  Picked up a Vanford 3000 and Avid X - my first set of really good gear.  Should be able to get better distance for topwater (eventually in the summer) and have better feel down deep.

Ice free this weekend except on my guides.

I use the ice extent daily sat image. Does your lake show up as visible there? You need to look on sunny days (today is cloudy). The high country still has snow but most lakes in the daks look clear yesterday.
