Yesterday,  I was using a weightless creature bait at a local pond. After about five minutes of casting, braid kept slipping from between my casting finger and the rod when I was loading the rod. My spinning reel has the proper mono backing with added braid on top and looks pretty tight.  So, what am I doing wrong?

I always make sure to put the line behind the first joint of the finger I'm holding it with...prevents the line from slipping out from behind the finger.

It's not slipping on the spool - it's slipping out from behind your finger.

I've never experienced anything like that with mono. I started using braid just last year, and it was working fine till yesterday. Is it braid doing the trick?

Some braid comes slick, others get slick from oils on your hands/sunscreen/bug spray/etc. I've just always put the line in the crease behind that first joint to make sure it's secure when casting with spinning gear...and that's 50+ years of using spinners.

Sounds like you have a new technique to master.  

You also didn't mention the brand/type of braid.  

Not all braids are the same.  

The good silicone-rubber coated braids, no matter how thin, get pretty good traction on your fingertip.
