Dobyns rods

Featured Replies

What's everyone's experiences and opinions on Dobyns rod?  I just basically discovered them and they seem to be good quality rods.

I'm at the low end with Furys, but they've been good to me. Last year had two - a 702SF for finesse spinning and a 705CB for crankbaits. This winter I added three more, a 703SF replacing an Aird-X M/F spinning, a 703C replacing an Aird-X M/F casting and a 704C adding to my MH/F arsenal (now have 4 MH/F rigs).

If you can afford the higher end Dobyns, get them - but the Fury is a good 'budget' rod.

I have a good number of their rods, most of my rods are the Champion XP models. Dobyns rod are good quality rods and feel great in hand/balanced.

Depending on your price point and what lures you're planning to use would be a good starting point. I would recommend purchasing when equipment goes on sale. All my rod purchases were on 20-40% sales/discounts. A lot of time towards the end of November/December for some good rod discounts.

If possible to find a store/dealer in your area to put your hands on the rods and check them out.

The Fury's are at a price point where they don't have as much competition as they would if they were and they do well for that market slot. If I was willing to spend $30 to $50 more, there would probably be other rods I would prefer more. And, if I spend $20 to $30 more than I would on other $100 rods, I think the Fury compares favorably and it's not that much more to spend for one.

I'm not as impressed with the Colt series compared to what other rods can be had for $80. The Sierra and Champions have a fair amount of competition at (or close to) their price points and I think they offer a good value even if they don't necessarily stand out. I haven't checked out the Kaden series.

Dobyns does seem to have a decent customer service reputation as far as I know, so if that is important to you, then that is a plus. Overall, they are good rods, and I certainly have no reason to advise anyone to steer clear of them.

I've got a few Champions, and one Extreme in my arsenal.

I find them to be extremely comfortable to fish, and I use them primarily for moving baits.  At this pricepoint, I think you can find rods with better sensitivity, but they're certainly not bad in this department.

Customer service in my experience is excellent!
