If you've got experience dropshotting in the St. Lawrence, can you suggest an ideal weight?

Hard to say without knowing what you'll be doing as well as how deep you'll be fishing. An assortment of 1/4 oz  to 1/2 oz would be ideal. So I guess if you had to choose one, 3/8 would be the way to go. 

Ideal? I dunno, but when we were there we fished 18-60 feet and used 1/4- 1 1/2 oz.

I ordered some 3/8oz pencil weights.  You can't buy them in NY but evidently you can buy them off EBay.

 

I'm heading up there in August (so psyched!) and I typically use 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4, largely the lighter weights. But given that the water is commonly around 70ft deep thus most of my fishing will be deep, I plan on buying at least some 3/8oz weights as well. Given that I'm on a kayak and will be keeping it along the shoreline, that should suffice but I could see the need for something quite a bit heavier to be honest, even on the kayak.

3/8 to 3/4oz

 

I usually use 1/2-5/8 but I have some 3/4-1oz. if I need them.  In the main current, I wouldn't go under 1/2oz.

Depth and current dictate the weight. There are many variables and possibilities up there.
