I am a residential painter and I have a client wanting to trade this boat for some paint work.

It is a 98 Dura Craft 1748 all metal transom with a 98 Johnson 50 with T/T and a Load Rite galvanized trailer. It has 2 live wells a 43 lb thrust foot controlled trolling motor, a depth finder, 2 batteries 2 gas tanks and nice canvas cover with outboard cover made together. This boat has a factory vinyl coating on the inside that looks like marine carpet that I really like. Looks to have been very well taken care of. Owner says it runs perfect and I can take it out any time I wish. This would be a big step up from my 1232 5 hp jon.

The real question is how much you expect it would cost you?  i.e. how much you would charge him to paint the area?  Then again who cares, that would be a huge step up boat wise!!

this is the boat value $1570-$1740

the motor is also on the NADA site its between $600-$850

trailer shows about$400

I went from a 15.5ft aluminum boat with a 30 to a 17 footer with a 60 and it was a big difference, so 5hp to50hp is huge.

is he paying for materials ? im in the same line of work and have got some good deals that way the question is if you want a better rig when do you see being able to pay that price for a rig vs just spending your time for it ? often times the barter works better than using cash hat may be needed for other things

Haven't discussed that yet, but depending on the amount of work he wants done I may just foot the bill for the materials. Just depends on what he is thinking the boat is worth compared to what I think my top notch paint job is worth. He also just had David Fritts [a well known pro who happens to be is cousin] go through the outboard for $500.00. So I would think David would do his cousin right if nobody else. Yes I really like this boat but I haven't let on to much, telling him I really want a bass boat. But nobody's asked to trade a bass boat for painting and I sure don't have the funds to buy one so this one will do just fine.

Sounds like a deal to me.

If the paperwork is in order (if any is needed), I would do it. There are a TON of boats out there for sale because of the economy, but this sounds like both of you would make out.

I've been bartering for a few years now everybody walks away happy usually on them deals. I trade flooring for whatever you have that's how I got my first boat a few years ago and my car trailer this year. As long the boat in good condition I would do the trade.

I think we should all barter...cut the goverment out of as many transactions as possible!!!! LOL It was good enough for our fore fathers!!!
