Best spinning rod for $120.00 or less?

Featured Replies

Hey all!  I know it's subjective as heck but can I get some opinions on the "best"  7'0''ish MH action rod on the market today?  Saw the pinned post called "Best Rod Thread" but it stops in 2018.  Need some more recent opinions please and thanks.

Personally I like a rod with some backbone as I make long casts from the boat and catch bass from 30 or 40 yards out or even more.  Tough to set the hook from that far with a wispy rod.  Especially on a soft plastic bite as opposed to something like a crankbait.  All opinions are helpful, especially if a bunch of people agree on the same rod.  Thanks!

You want backbone? How about the one I have for skipping jigs/spinners/chatters as I can't skip with a BC worth a darn.

Okuma Reflexions RX-S-701MHA - 7', medium-heavy/fast. $75

The Omen Blacks are 120-140$ and IMO theyre awful hard to beat at that price, light, sensitive, good actions and if you break it you get a new 1 for just shipping cost.  Check out the 7'5 Mag-Med, which means it has the tip of a M power with the backbone of a MH which helps cast unweighted plastics better then a stiffer heavy tipped rod.

The SC Mojo Bass rods would be another good option.

Phenix Maxims are really nice for the money as well.

Dobyns Fury is always a safe option.  Well built, good balance, good components.  I think there great rods, but the lack of a fore grip makes them uncomfortable because I choke up.  Obviously the fore grip thing doesn't bother everyone, because these rods sell like crazy so if you don't mind the exposed threads check em out.

My favorite spinning rod for bass is my 703SF Fury. Technically a "M" but it has a good amount of backbone (the perfect amount) for a medium spinning. Which is interesting because I know the Fury casting rods are known for being a little on the light side of their rating; my 734 is really closer to some of my medium casting rods.

My 703SF "medium" is an excellent rod for shaky heads, light T-rigs, plenty of muscle to set the hook on those kind of baits; and probably not advisable but I boat flipped a 5 lber on it with no issues.

Great rods for the price. I have a few XT's. Pretty happy with them.
