Pick my Next Spinning Rod

Featured Replies

I already have a P5 Destroyer Windbuster. It’s a M rod with a moderate fast tip (think senko/shakyhead/tube rod). What rod should I pair with that will, between the two, be able to throw whatever I want and why that rod?? I would prefer it to be either P5 or NRX but am open to others. Say it’s unlimited budget too.

I am interested to hear your opinions.

I use the landsat for my shakey head.

Since u already have the wind buster, the landsat would be the next logical step.

Not sure, if it could handle a senko though, since they are fairly heavy.

Sorry I should have clarified I am looking for a rod to throw drop shots/neds/other light presentations that the Windbuster struggles with.

I have only thrown shakeyheads on my landsat but i really like the rod.

I'm sure it would do fine with neds and drop shot.

Too me, the power of the rod is more towards the medium side of medium light. Its in between my 6'10" med light expride and 7' med expride. A good balance of finesse and power.

If not Landsat then Addermine maybe

Check out the Steez AGS, supposed to be outstanding

Yeah I have heard really good stuff about that rod.

Steez 761 MML

1/16 to 3/4 oz

I have used it primarily for 1/16th oz Neds but will use it for whatever is the hot bite.  Many use it as a deep water tube rod.  Do a little research on the rod.  It had lived up to the hype for me.  Easily the best rod I have ever used.

I have read about it being the unicorn spinning rod which sounds great but I am unsure how it compares in sensitivity to other rods like a NRX or destroyer? Have you used it for drop shots at all?? Also does the 1/16 Ned seem light for the rod when casting? Thank you!

While doing research last fall, a fella who owned both the Steez and NRX told me they are both unbelievable rods with comparable sensitivity.  He slightly favored the Steez but said you couldn't go wrong either way.  Granted, this was the previous model of the NRX.  The Destroyer had not been launched yet.  The wide range of 1/16th oz to 3/4th oz is what made me go with the Steez.  It can handle anything I throw on a spinning rod.

I originally bought the rod for 3/8 to 1/2 oz drop shotting but it was so light and sensitive that I started using it for Ned rigs.  It is lighter, more sensitive, and with more backbone than my Dobyns Champ HP 741 and 742.  Besides the Ned rig, I have only used it for 1/2 oz blade baits.  Give me another month after I take my first long trip up north and I can tell you how it handles tubes and big smallmouth.

That sounds fun! Let me know how it does.

I have owned or still own Steez AGS, GLX, NRX, addermine, zbone, cumara, poison, elite, extreme, Destroyer and more.... Love trying high end spinning gear and so far I would highly recommend Steez AGS. Addermine is a nice stick too but AGS is more sensitive.

That sounds good. I may have to grab one. Which model do you have?? Also how does it compare in sensitivity with an nrx? Thanks!

Yeah my school is sponsored by loomis (and megabass) so I could get the new nrx on a discount. Very tempted to grab one when they come in but I feel the 852 would be similar to my Windbuster. If I got one it would probably be the 822 drop shot or 821 Ned rod. Thank you!

I prefer the fast action of the steez over the XF nrx but both are incredibly sensitive. If you get a discount on MB or Loomis use it! Both have great options in your price range and you would be splitting hairs with the differences.
