Ribbon Tailed Worms and Crystal clear water, do they mix?

Featured Replies

here in Socal summer is just around the corner, and we have crystal clear water. I have always wanted to try fishing larger worms than the standard finesse worms but, will bass be spooked by these large worms in this clear water? I was thinking about slowly dragging them through the grass off of points and dropoffs, but I just dont know if I could get away with this strategy in 30 foot clarity water. If so what colors, probably a green pumpkin or watermelon red? also should you fish it super super slow compared to stained water because the water is cleaner?

At night big worms work good in SoCal lakes.

Flutter Craft 4” Screamers ribbon in smoke or cinnamon blue flake good.

Bigger the worm a large size hook and heavier line goes hand in hand. Will it work as well as a finesse 6” curl tail...no.

Very early and late low light periods will be better to try out big worms.

Green Pumpkin is very popular everywhere except SoCal. If you want green use light green watermelon with black red or purple flake. Big worms* I prefer cinnamon blue neon or purple thunder ( smoke purple neon w/ silver-gold flake ).

In a month or so I’ll give a review or opinion on some new ribbon tail worms I just bought.

I use to kick butt on the river with the 4” style of Culprit ribbon tails. They totally dried up for years around my area and I have only been fishing what I have small quantities of.

Sort have been looking for an alternative. Found these worms put out by this company called Dry Creek Outfitters. I’m going to be trying their 5” ribbon tail. Pretty close to what I used years ago. I think my results are gonna be good.
