When to change color vs lure

One time I would change color before lure type is when I have been killing them on a certain lure, and the bite slows or stops.  Before moving or switching lures, I will try a different color.  I already know the fish are there,  I was presenting the lure correctly, and they were liking my lure.  Maybe all it will take to turn the bite back on is a different color.
