I've Never Sniffed a Crawfish...

....so I didn't know what to expect when I picked up some Pro Cure Crawfish Scented Gel. I definitely didn't know a craw smells like stinky socks, or something else half way north on the backside of the anatomy. Saturday night while on the boat with my brother I untwisted the cap, passed it to him, then asked him what he thought it smelled like. His expression was priceless. I was happy about that because he'd dropped a silent noxious deathfart while we were loading the boat. I think it stained my lungs.

Anyway, I schmeared up one of two Keitech Noisy Flappers with the smelly goo, then got to work over a 3 ft deep grass flat with the clean one. I started getting strikes pretty quickly, but they were all short, and they were small bass. Once I switched over to the scented bait I was still getting struck by small bass that were missing the hook, but they actually held on much longer. I lifted two right out of the water and the plastic was still skin hooked. Eventually we found some slightly bigger bass and I hooked up.

So, now I'm a believer in gel scent, even if it smells like BassWhole!-in-a-bottle. I still don't care enough yet to use any liquidy garlic potions, but desperate times...We'll see. The smell of it sours up my gut instantly, and it seems to get on everything and linger endlessly.

fwiw, try some Megastrike. it comes in a tube and applies like a paste. you only need a small amount (smaller than pea size) and it stays on your lure longer than the liquid scents. it comes in original, garlic and crawfish. it stows easily, but you will need to keep a fish rag handy to wipe your fingers. don’t let it lay around in the sun when you’re not using it. i’ve thrown mine in the cooler on those hot days.
