Minn Kota Maxxum 70lb Opinions?

What are your opinions on the Maxxum line of Minn Kotas, specifically the 70?

Currently have a 55lb Endura on the back, but I am tired of not having a bow mounted motor.

Thanks fellas.

They are great trolling motors, just make sure to get the one with the maximizer built in, or a non SC (speed control) model.  It will have a variable speed adjustment anywhere from 0-100%.  Not a set speed setting of 1-5.

From everyone I talked to the Maxxum is a very good TM. I was going to buy one for my boat. The reason I didn't is I couldn't get the built in transducer, so I went with a Fortrex. The digital speed control is great and is much more efficient than the multi-speed control.

I've got a Maxxum Pro 105 and love it. Have had both MG's and Minnkota's and much prefer the Minnkota.

I have a 68# with 0 to 100% speed control. If I remember correctly I bought it the year before the assisted raise came out and if I was to do another I'd buy one with the power raise assist. Mine has a built in transducer which is great.

When I need a new TM mine will be a MK.

As long as your boat is not to big for it buy that motor. I had the exact model and loved it. Follow advice about variable speed control, do not go for 5 speed for any reason.

Great motors.  If you can get the variable speed, get it.  MK uses a rather weird non-linear speed control with the 5 speeds.  Speeds 1 and 2 are very close to one another and used most for most situations. Then speed 3 really jumps up, then 4 even more and then 5 will try and throw you out of your seat.   ;)

i have one on a 19ft.javelin and it works very well.

I had one on a 16' aluminum lowe. I thought about listing it as outboard #2

Maxxum Pro's are the best (I hate the Fortex, loud and had a mount break). They had some bad armatures in them but fixed that issue. Minn Kota's are super weedless, quiet, and you can beat them up without worrying.

REcommend the 70 HIGHLY.  I went through 3 MGs in 5 years.  I had my current 70 SC for 4 without issue.  Well, until an event beyond the motor's control but that's a whole other story.

I've got an 18' Lowe WF 180 (aluminum)  It is pretty heavy.  The Maxxum 70 is the trolling motor I have and it moves me around pretty good and I can hold on points in a pretty stiff breeze.  I bought it in 2002.  I think that they make a bigger one now - an 80 I think.

At the time I bought the boat, I really wanted the 36 volt 101.  My boat dealer thought I was nuts, but after he totally 100% proved that there wasn't room for the extra battery, I went with the 70.  (or is it 74?  I forget which)

The basic rule of trolling motor purchases is to absolutely, positively buy the biggest, most powerful one that you can afford.

I love mine. I definitely recommend you get one.

Well, I went and bought the 70lb Maxxum.  Now I have to extend the deck on the Tracker jon a little bit.

Thanks for the advice and re-assurances fellas.

BTW.....$455.   ;)  How can you say no to that?   ;D

Why don't you send that TM to me for the winter Wayne?  I'll keep it nice and safe on the front of my boat.

Wayne,   where did you find it for that price?

PM to you...

I like my maxxum 70.  No problems whatsoever and I'm into my 3rd season on it.  I wish I had bought one with the built in transducer though.  The cable is a pain in the a$$ at times but over all zero complaints and a very tough motor.  I bought a spare prop thinking that I'll go through one a year but I'm still on the original and it's been beat hard.
