I've seen more than a few guys use spray furniture wax polish on there bass boats. New ones at that. Anyone know if this can damage the finish on a boat after a while?

All I can say is not on mine. Also, never put any wax of any kind on the bottom of the hull.

I have used a lot of Pledge on glass boats in the past.  But now I use BBS.

Furniture polish lacks UV inhibitors that the gelcoat on a boat badly needs for protection.

You can, but it will not improve the top end porformance. In fact it can hurt it.

My Champion is primarily white and it yellowed after a few coats of pledge. I didn't realize it until I used a paste cleaner/wax afterward. Now I use BTS (Bow To Stern) routinely and have been quite happy with it...........Al

From my work in the woodworking world, it is common knowledge that there is no really effective UV protection in varnishes. So, I would think that the same would be true for waxes.

I would expect wax to protect against fiberglass oxidation.

I wax my boat 3or so times a season with Collinite #885 Heavy Duty Paste Fleetwax.After every outing I will use the BTS couldn't ask for a better product!! My Triton is a 2002 and it looks brand new.

I would highly recommend BTS, which is a sponsor on this site. It is an all surface protectant and can be used on just about any surface of your boat. It is a polymer sealant which cleans dirt out of the pores of your gelcoat, seats, etc., and then seals dirt out. You put it on every month or so and just wipe your boat down with a wet rag in between. I've never heard of anyone yet that tried it and didn't love it.

Why not wax the hull?

  If the boat has any kind of performance potential, a waxed hull will slow it down.  Water does not release from a glassy smooth or waxed surface like it does a rough surface.  It's normal to actually wet sand the planeing surface of a hull with 320 - 360 grit to gain a few more mph.

However, if you're only running 45 or so now, don't worry about whether or not you hull is waxed or sanded, it's not going to make a difference you would ever notice.
