single hook crankbait

A common way to rig a Wiggle Wart for salmon is pictured below.  The same method using a bead chain swivel instead of a barrel swivel was actually an option Storm sold in their salmon series, a few years before they were bought out.  Rigging a single hook in this matter greatly increases the number of salmon hooked and landed compared to stock treble hooks.  Simply putting a single hook on the back split ring made the lure unstable at high speeds.   Has any one tried rigging a crankbait this way for bass?  Any theories on why or why it wouldn't work?

Me, too. That self snagging hanging hook would catch every reason I fish “weedless” and off the bottom for on the first two cranks.

The single hook hangs back and up when retrieved, It snags less than the same lure with trebles, on the rocks and logs, in the rivers I fish for salmon.  May not be the case where you fish I wouldn't know.  Most crankbaits are not considered weedless.

where I fish, anything that isn’t weedless is gone if it runs along bottom.
