I have recently started using fluorocarbon, and have decided that I like it. My original stash of fluorocarbon is getting low, and I’m thinking about buying it in larger spools next time. It will take me a while to go through 1,000 yds of line so my questions are: how long will fluorocarbon last, and is there anything I need to do to make it last longer (like keep it out of sunlight, etc.)?

Some on setups that I don’t use a lot is very good for a year especially 12 and 15 # test.  On setups I use most every trip I get several months out of it.  It is still strong but gets a lot of memory.  I have had a lot of trouble with 6# not lasting so I have changed to Youzri Hybrid for that.

Up north we only get 4-5 months of open water fishing so for me I change out every year. Stored inside and kept out of UV and heat would expect it to last for several years minimum. I would have no worries buying a spool and it would take me about 2 years to use one up.

 

Net net cool, dry, and out of the sunlight, flouro probably lasts nearly forever. I don't even think the light does much to it, but it doesn't take much more to store it dark.

On the other hand, if you are going to keep trying different brands, you might just buy the smaller spools until you are really sure.

Fluorocarbon doesn’t degrade from UV or heat like Nylon monofilament does. The only thing you should do is store all line in a cool dark space.

FC wears out from use faster then mono line do to abrasion and stress trying to pull out snagged lures.
