Daiwa AirdX vs Procyon?

Featured Replies

About to buy another rod. 7’ MH. I really like the AirdX Medium I last bought. The Procyon seems to be the next step up in the price point at about $20 more. Will I notice any appreciable differences in these rods?  Is the Procyon worth the slightly higher price?  Thanks.

I can't tell you power-to-power how they rate, but I do own rods from both lines. I think the Procyon is a little crisper than the Aird-X and a bit lighter.

It's also a better looking rod, IMO.

I notice the 7’ MH Procyon says it has an extra fast tip and the 7’ AirdX MH says it has a fast tip. Should that be a consideration in my selection as well, or does that part not matter as much?

I don't use XF rods...ever...so can't say specifically. If you want just a fast though, the 7'3" Procyon MH is a Fast, not an Extra-Fast.

The Procyon 661MXS spinning rod I have is a nice rod. For the price, the cork grips are very nice. It’s a great wacky and weightless Texas rig rod.

I can’t argue that. It is a nice looking rod.

I could also step up to something like the Dobyns Fury. I see great things about it too. Not ready to drop money on something like a Shimano Expride just yet. Maybe a future gift to myself ?

I do as well. I just wonder if I can truly notice the difference between a $79.99 Procyon and a $119.99 Fury.

Another option - which I have two of - is the Okuma Reflexions. About the same price as the Procyon...and so far seems to be a really good rod.

Thanks all. I ended up actually getting a Dobyn’s Fury MH 7’

Great rod in that price-bracket...I have a Fury 704 myself, my main bottom contact rod. An Aird-X MH is my moving bait rod.
