Motorguide x3 - Manual Steering Cable

Featured Replies

The cable broke under the foot peddle.  Any one replace this thing?  I don't see any Youtubes.  Any hints before I disassemble the head?  Thanks in advance.

I haven't worked on a Motorguide trolling motor in years.  Switched to Minn Kota and never went back.  Back in those days, I changed a lot of broken cables. Changing the cable is a mostly disassembly reassembly project.  The hardest part is disassembling the head of the trolling motor.   If you have some mechanical ability and the right tools, it's not too hard.  Is the cable available?  Ask around.  There is normally someone in every area that repairs trolling motors for a living that may sell you the part.  Better yet, they can change it for you.

Trash it and get a 30 year old minn kota....it's still better.

My MG was a pos. Shook apart, couldn't steer, didn't have enough umph to get out of it's own way.

Replaced the cable.  Super easy.  New one comes in the sheath with all connectors etc.  Sliding the new cable down inside the cable cover was easy too.  Tension adjustment screw needed to be loosened to connect end to pedal.  Also the tension wheel must be removed to allow space for the cable end.  All easy stuff.
