Moss/Underwater Weed Mats

Featured Replies

I'm having a hard time on what I should be using with the small lake that I fish on and was wondering what lure/rig is appropriate other than top-water.

I tried T-Rig and is just sits on top of the weeds, plus there are no holes where it can sink. There is no grass at all, just that mossy crap right under the surface slopping down. There are tree's but they in the middle of lake and can't reach from the bank.

Any thoughts would be helpful, I guess I really have to learn the T-Rig all over again...it's frustrating.

Drop shot rig with a very light, pencil sinker and a 4" senko or TRD in texas rig hook configuration.  A wacky rigged senko with weedless hook will probably stay above the moss too.  Spinnerbait run fast enought to just go above the bottom muck should also work.

Something like a Zoom Horny Toad, Gambler Magnum Burner Worm, or a paddletail fished as a weightless t-rig would be my first choices in a situation like this.

A weightless soft plastic with the hook buried . I recommend  use a Senko type worm , they weigh more than others . Use a big heavy hook , that will aid in casting and help bring in a bass encased in moss/ weeds . Just twitch around over the top and pause in areas that look a little thinner , holes ... Heavy tackle will be needed . My subdivision lake was covered in moss and I caught a lot of big bass that exploded through the canopy to gobble a plastic worm .

Ya got 2 choices, ya can fish over it or punch through it.

How far under the surface is the moss mat and how deep is the water?  If it's close to the surface, within 2ft. and you fish above it, the fish have to get through it to get to your offering. If there's some depth below it, punching is the way I'd go. The downside is you're fishing from the bank and any attempt to work your presentation back to you will collect moss. You can reduce it using smaller, tungsten, weight. That could get costly if you get hung up and have to break off.

I'm with @Catt on this one, the real question though, is if your getting bit on topwater...why on earth would you want to change?

This is for when the top water bite goes away and the bass start moving to deeper water the hotter it gets. Though I've noticed that some stay shallow up until 3pm on cloudless days.
