Looking for article re: wind and fall fishing

Featured Replies

Does anyone have an article about how wind affects fall bass fishing?

Wind effects fish similarly in all seasons.  It pushes plankton, the baitfish follow it, and the bass follow the bait.  Additionally, wind masks the presence of your boat, trolling motor, etc.  Wind stirs the water which makes it tougher for fish to get a great look at a bait which is good for us fishermen!  In short, wind is your friend in almost every fishing situation.

I am sure someone will post a link for you.

Wind has little positive affect on rivers with current.

Larger natural lakes a man made reservoirs wind helps to oxygenate the water and mix it but can cause a turnover in higher winds.

Fall is a transition period between warm water summer period and cold water winter period. Conditions are changing and wind is a part of this transition along with storms and rain.

Wind can be light and easy to fish in or high winds dangerous to out on the water.

Plan to be versatile using several lures types to determine where and what depth the bass and bait are located. Where I fish Grebes that target Shad schools are helpful, but they don’t like windy conditions and harder to see them in the waves.

Those times when the wind blows the same direction for a few days can make for memoral days on the water. Seems especially true in fall with all those big schools of baitfish in the main lake basins.
