Damaged rod or ??

Featured Replies

So it's that time when I update a lot of my gear. I ordered a couple Shimano Exprides and they came in today. One of the cardboard tubes was bent pretty badly. It actually looks worse in person than I could get it to show in the picture I attached.

Not sure how but the rod wasn't broken inside. Question is, could it have gotten damaged internally or somewhere that can't be seen visually? Would you guys send it back for another one or trust using it?Screenshot_20210924-123317_Gallery.thumb.jpg.38cceba60cca3ad1c1d19b3a17732d6c.jpg

I had a Gloomis come looking worse than that.  I’ve been using it for several years now.

If it were me it would be going back. If it looked alright or not when you unpacked it.

Your rods will bend more than that when you cast and 3X that when you set the hook. I doubt seriously if your rods are compromised at all.

Well the bend is more towards the reel seat. Right on the backbone section. It's a 7' 11" flipping stick.

Like the dealer told me, it has a warranty, so try it and see what happens. That was July of 2019 and it's still fine.

That's a Conquest 844C. The tube was completely broken into 2 pieces in the middle and somebody put a little piece of tape on it. Not even one full wrap.

I guess now I have to go find a big girl to test it out on! I've been really living up to my screen name lately...?

A nice stump will work in a pinch. Rear back on it and you'll know if the backbone was damaged.

You're a genius! I can't believe I didn't think of that. ? And I have just the spot for that too.
