It turned out to be the brakes. I had 4 down and two up. Reversed that and I my casting distance went way up matching that of my other rods.

This is what I figured the issue was, glad to hear you got it sorted!

I have an Aird X MHF and a MF. I also have a Falcon Lowrider MHF and a Dobyns MHMF. They are used for different applications but all cast well. I was also going to doubt that it was the rod, but just saw the OP mention it was the brake setting, so there it is. 
 

I love my Falcon and Dobyns, but I still use my Aird X’s a lot.
