24 volt T/M

Featured Replies

What size wire should I use for a 24 volt trolling motor? I would think I should use something heavier than what I used for a 12 volt. Thanks  Jeff

8awg will do fine or 6awg is better just depends on how much you want to spend on wire but both will do a good job

Just picked up some 6 gauge to wire my 24V MG.

I thought you could use lighter wire if you used a higher voltage.

Voltage has nothing to do with what size wire you use, only the type insulation on the wire.  The current load and length determines the size wire.  A 24V 50# thrust TM can use half the guage wire as a 12V 50# thrust because the 24V will pull half the current the same size 12V motor will.
