Halo Rods - HFX input?

Featured Replies

Happy 2022 everyone! While dwelling in the ice doldrums of the Chicago-area and chomping at the bit for open water season, the bait monkey is on my shoulder.

Has anyone here had experience with Halo rods? In particular the HFX series? Was looking at them online and they seem to have many profiles available for all techniques and the price is easily attainable at only $150.

Anyone here have any hands-on experience that could provide some insight and thoughts? I’m currently using the new Falcon Cara’s.

mikeybalzz fishing on youtube uses these rods.  He usually says what model and wears a chest cam.  You might be able to piece together some action characteristics putting the catches together.  He tends to lean toward parabolic and slightly lighter actions for techniques in my opinion.

I'll tell you the Halo HFX isn't going to impress you or be any better than the Falcon rod you have.

I ordered a Halo HFX spinning rod hoping it would be something special, but I was disappointed. It is a nice rod and all but it is a bit heavy in weight compared to other brands.

I would go with a Daiwa Tatula before a Halo HFX for price comparison.

I used a couple new Powell Diesel rods last year and I'm really impressed with them for the low price. I'm using them for crankbaits & bladed jigs.

They also have a new lineup of the Naked series but I don't think I would like the reel seat.

I liked the older Halo's when Louie Zhang owned the company. He sold to American Baitworks and started Ark.

I see the new ones at a few of our local dealers who sell the other AB products like Net Bait and Scum frog ect.  They seem ok on the rack but I have no idea how they fish.

Lee Livesay has been known to catch a few on them but it's probably the Indian not the arrow.

I would be shocked if you liked them better than a Cara.

I ordered a 7’3” heavy last Friday and rod was delivered that Sunday. Talk about freaky fast! Very impressed with the responsiveness and efficiency of their customer service and shipping.

The rod looks absolutely stunning. Cross carbon weave up to the first guide then straight satin black. Perfect guide wraps. I wasn’t too sure what to expect as this is my first Halo. I’ve had Falcons, Dobyns, and Loomis in my arsenal over the years. For the price of the rod, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot other than sheer curiosity of trying something new.

Fit and finish are impeccable. Right up there with the clean builds of the best. I put a Metanium on the rod and it balances just about 1/2 an inch forward of the reel. Pretty light and feels solid. Not tip heavy at all. Action on the rod is stated to be a mod-fast but in all actuality it’s a fast…maybe even extra fast. Would make a killer frog/jig/Texas rig rod.

For the price, it’s a 46-ton Toray blank and Fuji stainless SiC guides that are the straightest I’ve ever seen. Reel seat has a fair amount of exposed blank as well. When in-hand, it just “fits” perfectly. From holding the reel the lower handle marries up with the length of my forearm perfectly.

Tied up an old 1/2 oz jig and dragged it across many surfaces since we have hard water here outside of Chicago and the sensitivity I kid you not, feels right up there with an Expride and NRX. Yes…you read that right. I have hardwood floors and dragging the jig across with my eyes closed I was able to feel each seem in the floor planks.

Open water cannot get here fast enough. For the price, you actually get a lot of high quality components from the blanks to the guides. I just might have to order more ?
