Shimano Sustain is Rough only when putting spool on

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have replaced all bearings, Drive Gear, Idle Gear, Pinion Gear, and cleaned and lubed the reel. I have been doing this for 10 years + I checked the Schematics and all part are were they should be. So the reel spins perfect until I put the spool back on and spin it upright then it is rough. Any Ideas how to correct this?

 Thanks

Make sure you didn't get anything in the reel or make sure you have replaced all of the bearing last but not least, make sure you have your spool is clean.

Yes upright only it is oscillating fine. If I take off the spool and spin it upright it is fine. I have broken it down 3 times now trying to figure it out. It only does it after I put the spool back on. So only in this position and when the spool is on. I tried another spool same thing.

Thanks

Can the shaft be bent? IDK just throwing that out there.

Yes it is tight. I am just going to replace the shaft and oscillating package. then it will be a complete inner rebuild...lol I was just stumped on this because like I said I have a good bit of experience in fixing spinning reels but have never come across this problem.

Thanks

Contact a tech who knows these reels, site sponsor Mike at DVL call Don Isaac at ReelEx 650/454.4938.

It sounds like a gravity related issue.

Short of dropping the reel, those should be fine. I would suspect a bad idler bearing first. Have you tried replacing all bearings back to old and seeing if issue persists?

I fixed it tried a different pinion bearing the one that was in it was brand new. Dunno must have been defective.

Thanks
