Spinning rod suggestions for jerk baits and Crankbaits

Featured Replies

Hey all.

I’m in the market for a spinning rod. I’d prefer one for both jerks and cranks but willing to buy a good rod for each application.

I only for for river smallmouth and occasionally walleye in VA. Most lures are under 1/2oz, with 1/4 and 3/8 oz being the most common weight.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Spinning reels twist line without a swivel attach to untwist the line. Any good quality spinning medium fast action rod should work. What reel? And budget?

I’ve got a decent amount of reel choices on hand. All Shimano; Stradic FL, C14 and vanford

Sorry forgot budget. Aiming 200-250 or so.

SC Victory VTS71MF would be my choice currently. I have this with Vanford 2500, a little tip heavy do to very light reel.  Stradic FL is little heavier and may balance better.

I've been using a 7' medium daiwa kage about a year now for jerks and cranks among other things; shakeyhead, wacky, neko. It is appropriately named the "all-around" model, it sells for under $200, it is the only spinning rod I have or could imagine needing, very happy with it.

I just remembered I have an older falcon medium light casting rod with an old Shimano curado 100 reel that I loaned to my cousin about 15 years ago and forgot all about it. I’ll get that back from him first and give it a whirl.
