John Crews Icon Frog Rod

Featured Replies

Anyone have this rod and can comment on how it does in various cover (open water, light, and moderate/heavy), and also what other baits you throw on it? I’m not looking for a specialized frog rod; rather, one that can handle medium to regular-sized frogs and also other moving baits—mostly swim jigs, T rigged plastics, etc. Looking for 7’ max (my preferred length out of kayak).

Thanks!

From my limited experience with Cashon rods they have been solid if uninspiring. This particular stick looks really interesting though. A sub 7’2” frog rod made by a major brand is rare. While it’s ratings would tell me to avoid massive slop, open water or light salad might be great. I have a feeling the torque coming off heavy blank would serve well for everything you’re looking to use it for.

If anything though I’d say look at the Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch if you don’t mind 7’2”. I’ve used one for a while season for just what you described and I recently upgraded to the Orochi. I fish tournaments from a kayak, but I’m comfortable throwing swim baits on an 8 foot stick.

Yeah I’ve had my eye on the MB PP but nervous about the extra length. The recent $50 price hike doesn’t help either. If I can find a good deal on a used one maybe worth a shot.

It’s one of those things when they were 200 it was an easy sale. Now they’ve gone up but we’re waiting for the competition to do the same.

I’ve only really had issues fishing from a kayak with a longer rod when I’m trying to navigate skinny water and trees. When I’m able to pitch with my Brailist the extra length helps with the hook set so I’m not leaning out of my seat.

I would not buy one used. Losing the warranty when you kayak fish is a recipe for disaster.

Good grief Cashion....it's a heavy power rod, not a 'heavy action' rod (per their description).

Lol.   Don’t get me started on all the posts about a reel being a “7 speed”. Is it a manual or automatic?  ?

my best frog rod ever was a Hammer 7’ heavy with the same specs as the Cashion.   I would definitely give the Cashion a shot or check out the Hammer for another option.

Which Hammer 7’ model? I see three on their site: JAK, Elite and Baitcaster.

Elite series 7’ baitcaster Heavy

their website is a little confusing.
