Jig HELP!!

Featured Replies

I have no confidence in fishing jigs. :-/ So this weekend on the the lake im gonna try to fish a jig as much as possible. Can you all give me any pointers??

If you can find Low Budget Hookers video's on the forum he has one where he goes over 4, I think it's 4, jig fishing techniques.

They're supposed to look like a crayfish, most of the time, so keep that in mind when choosing a spot to fish them.

One of the best techniques that worked for me is hopping the jig. Watch LBH's video, thanks to him I'm even more confident in jigs, and I'm sure you will be too.

You can also try dragging it like a carolina rig. We do that quite a bit here in oklahoma and somtimes that catches them when hopping it won't. It just takes a little practice, The one thingo remeber when fishing a jig is to set the hook as soon as you feel the bite so the fish doesnt have time to spit it out. Hope this helped you some. :D

For some reason, I use a football jig way more than a grass jig or all-terrain jig. For me, 90% of my strikes are on the fall. I use a football jig in places were you would a c-rig. Cast it out, if using a baitcaster feed a couple feet of line. I usually hop or drag it.

Most of my jig fishing is flipping them into trees and under docks.  let it sink to the bottom and give it a few quick hops then let it go to  the bottom again . repeat till the bait is beneath the boat then retrieve it and flip again.
