3/8 lipless trap question

Featured Replies

I've found that the 3/8 Spro lipless is right in my wheelhouse for my ponds I fish. Just looking for the best setup to handle the bait. I have a spare crucial 6'10" m/f. I was thinking 12lbs flouro. Light grass from last year and open water. Thoughts or recommendations?

Using a baitcaster or spinning rig?

If a baitcaster, your set up is excellent.

If a spinning rig, you need to go down in test strength to 8-pounds.

Yes baitcasting.

Then your set up is what I would use.

Only change would be to have a fast tip on a medium rod.

Now go out there and kill them for us and post some pics.

We are getting snow in Richmond, VA today so I am staying inside and waiting for the Super Bowl.

The rod sounds right, I think with lipless, the line diameter is key. I usually have the same lipless tied on on 12 and 20, specially as the grass gets thicker. It fine tunes the ROF, and changes the action somewhat, which can also be a big factor. I use BG, but any good mono will work, and if you like retying or loosing lures, so will fluoro.

I use spinning Lews TP 1 x. On 15 lb. Braid. Casts a mile with good results.

I throw my lipless on a 7' MH/Mod-Fast Baitcasting set up. Little bit of give for keeping the treble hooks pinned, but not a full glass noodle.

I'd go 15lb for lipless to keep it up a bit higher in the water column, but with it being a 3/8oz it might run high enough anyhow to not bother. Everything else sounds ready to roll IMO.
