Home Made Molds - How?

Featured Replies

I've been taking plaster of paris and putting in an original bait coated with vaseline.  Plaster dries and I remove the lure.  This gives me an easy to use flat pour mold.  Ideas from all?  How do you make a mold?  Thanks.

My homemade molds are fiberglass.  I use double sided tape and cover the bottom of a plastic container.  I place the baits, press them down good and spray vegetable oil on them. Then I mix up Bondo fiberglass resin and pour it over the baits.  When it is cured I remove the baits and touch the mold up where needed with my Dremel.

I have used PoP but didn’t like it much. Durhams water putty dries harder and shrinks less and I still have a couple of those molds.  I have also used silicon caulk.  The molds turn out pretty decent but it is hard to work with and you have to make sure you get the right kind of silicon.  I eventually went to some of the pourable silicons that Alumilite makes when Hobby Lobby had a 40% off coupon.  Those worked great and I still use them on occasion.

Each of these methods I learned about on YouTube.  There are tons of videos that are really helpful.

Bondo like above works great just don't drop it on a hard surface.
